Armed Robbery Arrest – Sidney Warren

On August 6, 2018 the Gulfport Police Department arrested 26 year old Sidney Oshay Warren, of Gulfport , charging him with one count of Armed Robbery.

The arrest was the result of a patrol response, on May 29, 2018,  to the 600 block of Georgia Street in reference a report of armed robbery. The victim stated that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from him at gunpoint by Sidney Warren. The victim and Warren were known to each other and had an ongoing dispute over Warren, allegedly, taking a firearm from him on a prior incident. Gulfport Detectives responded and the resulting investigation led to a warrant being issued for the arrest of Warren by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray who set bond at $50,000.

On August 6, 2018, Warren was located and arrested. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

On July 18, 2018, a female entered the Walmart located at 9350 Highway 49 and scammed a cashier into transferring money onto a gift card. The female convinced the clerk that she was transferring money from her 401K to a Walmart gift card. The transaction was found to be fraudulent.  She was accompanied by two other individuals photographed below. Scams similar to this have been occurring at other Walmart locations outside of Gulfport.

This week marks the beginning of the 2018/2019 school year.  The Gulfport Police Department wants to ensure the safety of the pedestrians walking in or near school zones.  Attached is a copy of the schools and the school zone times.  Be mindful that when the school zone traffic lights are active, the speed limit is 15 mph in that area.  We are asking motorists to pay attention and adhere to the speed limits during school zone times as well as non-school zone times. Motorists should also remember that passing a stopped school bus is prohibited.

In December of 2009, a bill known as “Nathan’s Law” was submitted and passed by the state legislature as a result of the death of Nathan Key.   As stated in the amended Mississippi Code of 1972, the driver of a vehicle upon a street or highway upon meeting or overtaking any school bus which has stopped on the street or highway for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children shall come to a complete stop and shall not proceed until the children have crossed the street or highway and the school bus has proceeded in the direction it was going.

Motorists should be mindful of this statute and that children sometimes cross in front of the stopped school bus upon exiting it.  Therefore, motorists should be more cautious when they see a stopped school bus or a bus slowing to stop.

Potential incidents occurring from this violation can be prevented.  Please be patient.  We want every child to have a safe and productive 2018/19 school year.

On August 2, 2018, Officers arrested 26 year old Kendall Fernando Daniels, of Bay St Louis charging him with one count of Aggravated Domestic Assault, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Cocaine Base, Possession of Methamphetamine . The warrant for Aggravated Domestic Violence was issued by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray who set bond at $250,000. The additional warrants were obtained from Harrison County Justice Court Judge Louise Ladner who set total bonds at $50,000 per charge.

On February 23, 2018 an adult female victim contacted to the Gulfport Police Department to initiate a complaint of domestic violence. The victim stated that Kendall Daniels strangled and struck her with his fists. The incident occurred in the 11000 block of Highland Avenue. Officers observed visible signs of injury on the victim consistent with an assault. Daniels was not located for arrest at the time of the incident reporting.

On August 2, 2018, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Gulfport Detectives received information that Kendall Daniels was inside of a residence in the 1900 block of 46th Avenue in Gulfport. Detectives traveled to that location where they made contact with the residents. Daniels was located and arrested without incident. During his arrest a firearm which was reported stolen from another agency, methamphetamine, and cocaine was recovered. Daniels was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

On August 6, 2018, Gulfport Detectives obtained warrants for the arrest of Alexander Jordan Henderson for five counts of Drive by Shooting. The warrants were obtained by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray who set bond at a total of $250,000. The warrants were the result of the continued investigation into this incident.

On August 7, 2018 at approximately 2:26 pm, Henderson turned himself in to the Gulfport Police Department. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

On August 2, 2018, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Markell Cooley was located and arrested without incident by Gulfport Police Department Patrol Officers. Cooley was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. His total bond was set at $250,000, for five counts of Drive by Shooting, by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray.

Traveon Williams and Jermarcus Naylor are no longer considered suspects after further investigation. On August 1, 2018, Officers arrested 19 year old Timothy Terrell Wright, of Gulfport charging him with five counts of Drive by Shooting. The warrants were obtained from Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray who set bond at $250,000 total bond.

The arrest was the result of a patrol response to the 1700 block of 45th Avenue in reference to five residential homes which had been struck by gunfire. Witnesses notified police after hearing gunshots from a vehicle on July 30, 2018 at approximately 10:30 p.m. There were no injuries. Gulfport Detectives responded along with Crime Scene Units. The resulting extensive investigation has let to warrants being issued for five counts of drive by shooting for an additional suspect. The warrants have been issued for, 21 year old Markell Deshawn Cooley of Gulfport. These incidents are believed to be due to an ongoing dispute between the suspects and a victim in the 1700 block of 45th Avenue.

Timothy Wright was located and arrested without incident on August 1, 2018. He has been processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

These individuals are believed to be armed. Please do not approach them.

On July 30, 2018, Officers arrested 28 year old Trent Royale Callahan, of Gulfport charging him with one count of Aggravated Domestic Assault. The warrants were obtained from Harrison County Justice Court Judge Louise Ladner who set bond at $50,000.

On July 30, 2018 at 12:15 a.m. an adult female victim traveled to the Gulfport Police Department to initiate a complaint of domestic violence. The victim stated that Trent Callahan strangled her until she lost consciousness. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of 21st Avenue. Officers observed visible signs of injury on the victim consistent with an assault. Officers located Callahan and took him into custody without incident. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

On July 10, 2018, the Gulfport Police Department responded to a report of credit card fraud. The victim stated that his credit card was used at a Gulfport Walmart and Sonic without his permission. Gulfport Detectives recovered video surveillance of the suspect and a vehicle in this incident. The suspect pictured used the credit card on July 9, 2018 at approximately 1:00 pm.

On July 16, 2018 at approximately 2:55 a.m., Officers responded to the Sleep Inn, located at 10393 Old Highway 49, in reference to an Armed Robbery. Patrol Units and Detectives responded.

The victim stated an unknown black male, approximately 6’00’, with a thin build, wearing a white t shirt and gray sweatpants, came to the front counter to inquire about renting a room. The suspect exited the front door and returned approximately a minute later and pointed a black semi-automatic firearm and demanded money. After removing an undisclosed amount of currency the suspect fled in a four door red vehicle. Surveillance footage of the incident and still images from a nearby gas station where the same suspect stopped are included below.

On May 25, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Gulfport Police Department arrested 46 year old James Andrew Kenny, of Gulfport, for one count of misdemeanor Disturbance of the Public Peace. His bond was set at $1,000.

The arrest was the result of complaints received against Kenny for following females while in stores, and taking numerous photographs. Kenny has stated that the intended purpose of the photographs was for his personal sexual interests. James Kenny is a convicted sex offender. He is listed on the sex offender registry at http://state.sor.dps.ms.gov/  The Gulfport Police Department has received several complaints regarding Kenny’s behavior by citizens who were disturbed and concerned for their safety in the Crossroads Mall area. The Gulfport Police Department has viewed reports on social media of Kenny’s similar activity at other Gulfport locations.

James Kenny was located and arrested without incident in the 12100 block of Five Oaks Drive. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. Electronic devices were collected during Kenny’s arrest. The devices are being reviewed for further criminal activity. On May 17, 2018 at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Gulfport Police Department arrested 34 year old Erica Chantelle Kelly, of Gulfport, charging her with one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Death.

On May 17, 2018 Kelly traveled to the Gulfport Police Department and turned herself in for being involved in the accident. Gulfport Detectives interviewed Kelly then contacted Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray. Judge Ray set bond at $25,000. Kelly was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

On May 16, 2018 at 12:53 a.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to a report of a injured male lying in the roadway in the 400 block of Live Oak Ave. Responding Officers located a 49 year old black male (identity withheld pending family notifications) suffering from critical injuries. The injuries appeared consistent with being struck by a vehicle. He was transported to Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Officers were unable to locate a suspect vehicle.

Gulfport Police want to make the public aware of counterfeit Oxycodone Tablets that actually contain Fentanyl due to the risk of overdose and death. Over the course of the past several weeks, Gulfport Narcotics Detectives have seized multiple blue pills marked with an “A215” which indicate that the pills are Oxycodone. When the pills were analyzed at the DEA Laboratory, the pills were found to actually contain Fentanyl with no Oxycodone present.

Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania wants to make the public aware of these counterfeit Fentanyl tablets. Individuals illicitly purchasing tablets believed to be Oxycodone may actually be receiving a fatal Fentanyl dose. Drug dealers will many times sell these pills that are not what they claim resulting in drug users being unaware of what they are actually purchasing.  This type of counterfeit pill activity makes the illegal drug trade especially dangerous.

Although the counterfeit pill market is nothing new, it becomes life and death when Fentanyl is involved. The Gulfport Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration are working diligently to identify the source of the counterfeit pills. Derryle Smith, DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge stated “DEA and our state and local partners are being proactive in investigating these cases. These type of heroin and fentanyl-related compounds are drugs manufactured specifically to meet the demand of opioid addicts. Fentanyl is deadly at the microgram level.  Make no mistake, misuse of fentanyl will kill you! “

On May 2, 2018 at approximately 1:53 a.m., Officers responded to the 2400 block of Knox Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. Responding Officers located an adult female who sustained injuries from a physical assault. The victim stated that her ex boyfriend, Kevin Thompson, forced entry to her home and assaulted herself and her teenage daughter. Thompson fled the home after the assault. A Detective responded and the resulting investigation led to warrants being issued for the arrest of Kevin Demond Thompson. Thompson is described as a 41 year old black male 5’08” 180 pounds with short black hair. He is believed to frequent the city of Moss Point. Thompson currently has active warrants for Aggravated Domestic Assault, Aggravated Assault, and Burglary.

Update September 24, 2018

On June 8, 2018, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana advising they located and arrested Christopher Henderson. Henderson was arrested on June 7, 2018 during a traffic stop for Possession of a Firearm and providing false information. A hold was placed on Henderson due to the outstanding felony warrants.

On September 24, 2018, Henderson was extradited back to Mississippi.  Henderson was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center where he was held in lieu of his $400k bond for Aggravated Assault and Armed Robbery ($200k each).

On April 28, 2018 the Gulfport Police Department arrested 20 year old London Shacore Taylor, of Sylacauga Alabama, charging him with one count of Aggravated Assault and one count of Armed Robbery. Also arrested was 38 year old Shannon Bernard Durr of Gulfport, charged with one count of Aggravated Assault and Armed Robbery.

The Gulfport Police Department is requesting assistance in locating Christopher Demitrice Henderson a 26 year old black male, 5’08”, 170 pounds. Henderson has active warrants for Aggravated Assault and Armed Robbery.

On April 28, 2018, at 2:21 a.m., Officers responded to the area of 30th Ave and 12th St in reference to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival Officers located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The male was transported to an area hospital for treatment. He was in critical condition. Gulfport Crime Scene Units, Patrol, and Detectives responded. The resulting investigation led to the identification of Taylor, Durr, and Henderson. The investigation revealed that the three suspects approached the victim with the intention to commit robbery. During the commission of the robbery the victim was shot several times.

Warrants were issued by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray. Bonds for Taylor are $250,000 for Aggravated Assault and $250,000 for Armed Robbery. Bonds for Durr were $100,00 for Aggravated Assault and $100,000 for Armed Robbery. Durr and Taylor were located, arrested, and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

On February 3, 2018 at approximately 9:00 am the Gulfport Police Department responded to a report a male suffering from a gunshot wound in the 4000 block of Ponderosa Drive. Upon arrival 16 year old Damian Thompson was found with a gunshot wound to his chest. Thompson was located inside of the residence. He was transported to Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Thompson reportedly advised others at the residence that he had shot himself. However, no firearm was immediately located.

Gulfport Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and conducted interviews with witnesses. The Investigation determined the shooting occurred in a bedroom of the residence.

Two 15 year old male juveniles and other adults were present in the home during the incident. The investigation revealed that Thompson and friends were preparing to film a video to upload to a social media website. The video was intended to depict Thompson and his friends displaying several firearms. The investigation revealed that while Damien Thompson was holding a handgun, he discharged the firearm into his chest accidentally.

Before police arrived the two 15 year olds took several firearms out of the residence to hide them. The firearms were later discovered by Gulfport Police. The weapons recovered consisted of two handguns, one shotgun, and one rifle.

The 15 year olds were charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Minor and Tampering with Evidence. The cases involving the juveniles has been referred to family court. This investigation will be presented to the next available Grand Jury for review. On January 22, 2018, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Gulfport Police Officer Luis Garcia was seriously injured in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Creosote Road and Three Rivers Road. Officer Garcia is a ten year veteran of the Gulfport Police Department and is currently assigned to the patrol division.  Officer Garcia was transported to an area hospital where he is still receiving evaluations and treatment. His injury status is stable but serious.

On January 7, 2018 at 9:07 pm the Gulfport Police Department responded to the 3000 block of Southward Drive in reference to a shooting. The victim,  a 33 year old adult male (identity withheld pending proper family notification), was located outside of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim succumbed to his injury while on scene. Gulfport Police Crime Scene and Detective Units responded to process the scene.

This investigation is ongoing. There are no arrests at this time.

On December 20, 2017 at 4:14 am the Gulfport Police Department responded to the 1500 block of 20th Street in reference to a report of a shooting. Upon Officer arrival an adult male victim (identity withheld pending Coroner’s Office release) was located inside of a residence. The male was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The shooting is being investigated as a murder.

Gulfport Police Crime Scene and Detective Units responded to process the scene.

On December 5, 2017 at 8:55 pm the Gulfport Police Department responded to the 13000 block of Artes Street in reference to a home invasion and shooting. The victim, 30 year old John Earl Kennedy III of Gulfport, was located inside of the home suffering from gunshot wounds. Kennedy succumbed to his injuries while on scene. Gulfport Police Crime Scene and Detective Units responded to process the scene.

This investigation is ongoing. There are no arrests at this time.
